About Us
Our Mission
Sprocket Mural Works is a citywide mural project that works with neighborhoods, artists and organizations to create vibrant community murals across Harrisburg. Our mission is to increase community pride and civic engagement in Harrisburg through creative action.
Sprocket Mural Works is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All donations are tax deductible.
We love Harrisburg!
We wish to add to the beauty of Harrisburg and celebrate the rich and diverse culture that resides here, through the medium of vibrant murals. Why is beauty so important? See video below.
Mural Themes
We often are asked how we choose what types of imagery gets painted. Since Sprocket started in 2014, we have been collecting input from the community. We’ve done this at physical locations, door-to-door outreach, online and through our social media to find out what types of murals people would like to see.
Images of flowers, local plant life, animals and people are most often requested. Bright colors and patterns that are abstract and absent of distinct themes are also popular. Our artwork is always colorful as it is intended to inspire and uplift the community. What types of murals would you like to see? Let us know!
When creating public art, Sprocket does not include imagery such as: business logos, product advertising, political or religious messages, memorial portraits, substances, nudity, or any image that may cause harm or discriminate.
Volunteers Drive Us
Our volunteers help prepare and prime walls for murals, participate in community paint days, plan events, manage social media, craft press releases, support first-time muralists, organize accounting, prepare wall owner agreements, fundraise, haul paint (so much paint); and all of the details and planning that make our mural festivals a success.
If you would like to volunteer your support to sprocket, we would be happy to have you! Please tell us how you would like to help.
