This nature-inspired dreamscape was created by artist Miles Toland of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

“The mural is about the earth and sky coming together in symbiosis through a story of human connection,” he explains. “It’s a reminder that humans are not separate from nature – because we are nature.”

Toland hopes the artwork creates a feeling of connection for neighbors to their environment and inspires them to protect and preserve the planet.

He adds that the hands in the piece are meant to represent relationship and the difference it can make to feel held and supported.

Toland began this mural with a doodle grid – a grid of shapes, numbers, and symbols that help an artist scale their work – on Father’s Day in June 2025. Several kids from Hall Manor helped him sketch it onto the wall.

“The grid allowed me to accurately scale up my design that I outlined by brush,” he says. “I then painted the rest of the mural using an airless sprayer which helped to get the smooth gradients over the brick texture.”

He painted the moon and the moon rays using a string taped to the wall.

“This allowed me to create perfect circles and guide the straight lines,” he says. “The whole process was pretty smooth and it was great to paint in the middle of a vibrant community. There was a lot of curiosity and encouragement from the neighborhood, especially the kids.”

The Artist

Miles Toland

Miles Toland is a painter from Santa Fe, New Mexico currently based in Spokane, Washington. He finds an even split between making studio art and painting large scale murals around the world. His artwork explores the mysterious places we visit between sleeping and waking. Within these liminal realms he uses geometric patterns to express the spiritual energy of his subjects and their connection to the unknown. Miles is best known for his mural series at The Beatles Ashram in Rishikesh, India and for his painting featured in Season 2 of the TV show Better Call Saul.
