“Summer Garden” depicts the flowers, birds, and pollinators that appear in our local gardens every summer. Inspired by PA Dutch “fraktur” art and elements of embroidery, underlying geometric patterns underscore the connectivity between nature and ourselves and keep the eye moving across the scene.
Nicole Smeltzer studied fine art at Florida State University and has continued her artistic education with various artists over the years, working in watercolor, acrylic, and oil. Her recent works in watercolor and acrylic focus on imagery from her home and garden in York, Pennsylvania. She is influenced by the design and embroidery work of PA Dutch folk art. Textured and layered, her works build on the repetition of shapes and patterns to create a composition that keeps the eye moving.
