This bright, bold, beautiful mural flanking the Harrisburg Boys and Girls Club’s John N. Hall Club House and covering the adjoining basketball court was painted by the internationally acclaimed muralist Osiris Rain in the summer of 2025. It is his first Pennsylvania mural and Sprocket’s first mural to cover a basketball court.
“I had a blast doing this,” says Rain, who completed the spray-paint based piece over the course of a week. “This was my second Boys and Girls Club.”
Due to a heatwave that kept the average temperatures in the 90s, the artist would begin painting at dawn and wrap for the day around lunchtime. While dawning a respirator to avoid inhaling spray paint, he often hid from the midday sun under a shade cloth he’d strapped to PVC pipes on his boom lift.
To paint this piece, he first spray painted a doodle grid – a grid of shapes, numbers, and symbols that help an artist scale their work – onto the wall. Then, filled in the geometric background and kids.
“I really wanted to do something that was just a blast of color that would be inspiring to the kids. Hopefully it inspires them to pursue their creativity,” he says.
The wall portion of the mural was completed in June and the basketball court portion in July.
Rain, a North Carolina-based artist, is known for his meticulous and distinctive artistic style. His goal was to create something that feels like it truly belongs to Hall Manor residents.
“For me, murals are about more than just paint on a wall—they’re a reflection of the people, history, and pride of a neighborhood,” he says of the vibrant community.
Osiris hopes his work will be something that makes people stop, smile, and feel seen.
“If it brings people together, starts conversations, or simply brightens someone’s day, then it’s done what it was meant to do,” he says.
