Meet Our 2025 Mural Artists

HARRISBURG, PA – June 13, 2025 – Sprocket Mural Works is thrilled to announce we are bringing in eight talented artists for our 2025 mural festival in Hall Manor from June 22-28.

“We chose each artist carefully. They were selected from more than 440 applicants we received in January,” says communications chair Lex Jones “Each one brings something different to the project. They are all incredibly talented. It’s such an all-star team.”

This ambitious project includes vibrant wall murals and two ground murals – Sprocket’s first-ever sidewalk and basketball court murals. The facade of Boys & Girls Club, an integral community partner to this project, will also be painted.

The artist concepts for this project were created in step with community desires. In early spring, Sprocket surveyed hundreds of Hall Manor residents, who expressed their desire to see inspirational people, nature, and a variety of cultures represented in this project. In April, our artists provided their top two concepts, drawing on these themes. Sprocket’s volunteers went door-to-door and hosted a pizza party at the local Boys & Girls Club, gathering 1,238 votes overall to determine the final selections.

Artist Sofia Ramirez, who will lead volunteers and members of the Boys & Girls Club in painting the sidewalk mural, hopes that her artwork can be a space for individual reflection, deeper empathy, and a chance to celebrate humanity’s vast diversity. “I hope these murals allow the people of the Hall Manor community to find pride and ownership in the public art that will shape their environment. I hope the kids from the Boys and Girls Club will see the power of creativity and leave the experience feeling more confident in themselves,” she says. “This mural will be a connecting pathway from the residential buildings to the community spaces, filling the corridor with color and joy.”

Artist Sharnee Burnett is excited about painting a wall mural of a historical figure chosen by the community. “Giving the community something beautiful and having the opportunity to connect with them throughout the process means a lot to me,” Burnett says. “I’m truly excited to experience the journey of creating this mural from start to finish. Having the chance to paint a historical figure to uplift the community is an honor.”

Artist Dionn Williams is excited to use her art “to create a bridge between African heritage and the heartbeat of our community.”

“I want every person who passes by to feel seen and inspired to stand in their own greatness,” she says.

Artist Shawn Dunwoody, known for his community-focused approach, summarizes his hope for the project simply: “I believe in art’s transformative power as a catalyst for change,” he says.

Sprocket provides artists with a stipend, travel support, and supplies. This Early Action project is being done in partnership with the Harrisburg Housing Authority (HHA) and the South Harrisburg Choice Neighborhood plan.
